Connect me to someone who knows

On his The Obvious blog Euan Semple recalls how at the BBC he found that ways of effectively putting people in touch with people became more important that putting people in touch with information. With social networking technology out there now that facilitates this, I think we should think very carefully about the knowledge management priorities inside any organisation we are involved with. Especially as business (and life generally for that matter) moves so fast and changes so often. Codifying knowledge so that it can be input to a system may just be a waste of time if it loses its context and is obsolete within a very short time period. Maybe.

You're not wrong. It's not important for a knowledge business. It's vital.

Big Blue have an interesting approach.

The key, I think, is to make people see the benefits of a community approach.

Which means sensible approaches not over-ridden by HR process, and bureaucratic systems - which stifle the very innovation we're trying to achieve.
